About & Contact
Hey! I’m Naomi — a Canadian travel editor and writer who’s been exploring the world for the past 13 years. It’s been quite a ride: I’ve lived in New Zealand, Australia, and Spain and I’ve backpacked in South East Asia, Europe, South America, and the Polynesian Islands. I’ll try anything once, whether that’s eating raw jellyfish or sleeping in a freezing cold ice hotel.
Why I created the Runaway Traveller blog
I wrote a personal journal-style blog for years — mostly for myself, and the handful of friends and family who actually read it. (Hi Mom.) After a decade of writing into the void, I decided to turn everything I’ve learned about navigating travel into something other people could benefit from.
By day I work as a travel editor at Explore.com, which means I spend a lot of time thinking critically about what advice is genuinely helpful versus what just sounds good. I apply that to my personal writing here too.
You’ll find honest takes, practical tips, and the occasional chaotic story. An unusually high number of strange things happen to me — and now by extension my partner, Chesney — when I travel. And I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I couldn’t write about them.
